The Prince Aly Khan Hospital, Mumbai announces temporary suspension of inpatient admissions and Surgeries.
Mumbai, 20th August 2022: Prince Aly Khan Hospital, Mumbai (PAKH), a part of Aga Khan Health Services, India, has announced that it will temporarily halt inpatient admissions and suspend surgical operations, with immediate effect.
The PAKH Board has taken this decision in view of the findings of a recent independent structural audit of the main hospital building, which was completed at the directive of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The findings of the audit indicate that despite regular and timely maintenance, the main hospital building is structurally weak and unsafe for occupancy.
Prioritizing the health and safety of its patients, its staff and all other stakeholders, the Board of PAKH has hence decided to temporarily halt inpatient admissions and suspend surgery operations with immediate effect. Other patient services, like OPD, which are housed outside the main hospital building will continue in the interim.
As the findings of the audit report are addressed, the hospital management is taking on necessary measures to avoid any untoward incidents on the premises. The management has also commenced a second structural audit, the findings of which, will inform future decisions on the viability of the main hospital building.
An official statement by the Prince Aly Khan Hospital stated “At PAKH, the safety of our patients, staff and our community is of paramount importance. We are mindful of the wide-ranging impact this decision will have on our patients, our doctors and our staff. However, as a responsible healthcare provider, this decision is in the best interests of all our stakeholders. We are working closely with the BMC on this matter and an update will be provided to all our stakeholders in the next few days.”
Prince Aly Khan Hospital has been delivering much-needed healthcare services since it first opened its doors in 1945 as a small, volunteer run organization. Over the years, PAKH has emerged as a preferred health service provider for the local community as well as a large number of patients from overseas, who are drawn by its wide array of facilities, the depth of services and modern facilities.
